Eneli Jefimova Became an NCAA Champion for the First Time

Eneli Jefimova won her first NCAA championship in swimming, setting a new personal record in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Eneli Jefimova achieved a significant milestone by winning her first NCAA championship at the swimming competition held in Atlanta. Competing in the 100-yard breaststroke, she recorded a remarkable personal best time of 56.30 seconds. In the preliminary heats, Jefimova represented NC State University and secured the third-fastest time with 57.41 seconds, behind competitors McKenzie Siroky from the University of Tennessee and Anita Bottazzo from the University of Florida who clocked in at 56.93 and 57.34 seconds, respectively.

During the evening finals, Jefimova dominated the race, initially placing third at the halfway mark but managed to accelerate significantly in the second half, finishing 0.7 seconds ahead of her rivals. This victory not only marked her first NCAA title but also significantly improved her previous best time, which she set at the ACC championships in February with a time of 56.77 seconds. Jefimova's performance at the NCAA championships places her third in the all-time rankings for the 100-yard breaststroke, underscoring her status as one of the fastest swimmers in NCAA history.

The only swimmers who have recorded faster times in the NCAA are the two-time Olympic champion Lilly King, who holds the record of 55.73 seconds since 2019, and Jasmine Blocker. Jefimova's triumph is not only a personal achievement but also enhances her profile in the world of competitive swimming, potentially setting the stage for future international competitions and giving her a chance to represent her country on larger platforms.
