Record operation against drug trafficking in Huelva: eight arrested, one million euros, and 5,000 kilos of cocaine on a farm in Gibraleón
A significant drug bust in Huelva led to the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of 5,000 kilos of cocaine, marking the largest cocaine operation in the province's history.
The National Police in Huelva has successfully carried out what is being described as the largest cocaine operation ever recorded in the province. On Saturday, March 14, authorities raided a rural property located in the Las Calvillas area between Gibraleón and San Bartolomé de la Torre, where they discovered nearly 5,000 kilos of cocaine. This operation also included additional searches in a second site in the province of Sevilla, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals who have since been placed under provisional detention by a judicial authority.
The dismantled organization operated with a sophisticated method, utilizing the same routes traditionally employed for hashish trafficking. The farm where the cocaine was found reportedly served as a temporary storage facility, where the drugs would be held for just a day or two before being dispatched to their ultimate destinations. This highlights a significant issue within the drug trafficking networks in the region, especially with cocaine's increasing presence and the tactics utilized by traffickers.
In addition to the substantial amount of cocaine, authorities also seized one million euros associated with the operation, indicating the high financial stakes involved in such illicit activities. The success of this operation underscores the ongoing challenge faced by law enforcement in combating drug trafficking and reinforces the need for vigilance and intelligence-led policing in regions affected by drug-related crime.
