Dog Poop Thaws on Streets, in Parks and Playgrounds – Östersund Municipality: 'Pretty Boring'
A survey reveals that dog owners in Jämtland are less likely to pick up after their pets compared to the national average, leading to concerns about cleanliness in public areas.
In Östersund, Sweden, residents are noticing an increase in dog waste left uncollected, particularly as warmer weather causes snow to melt. Local dog owner Petra Deimo expressed her disgust at the situation, emphasizing the responsibility dog owners have to clean up after their pets. The problem has become noticeable in parks and public playgrounds, which is leading to frustration among community members.
A recent survey conducted by Novus on behalf of Agria has shown that only 70% of dog owners in Jämtland report consistently picking up after their dogs, which is lower than the national average of 78%. This trend indicates a need for greater awareness and responsibility among dog owners in the region, as the uncollected waste not only detracts from the area's beauty but also poses health risks and contributes to littering.
Authorities in Östersund are highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership and have made efforts to provide resources such as 600 trash bins and bag stations for dog owners. However, uncollected dog waste is still a challenge, and failure to comply with cleanup regulations can result in fines, further emphasizing the need for community action to address the issue.
