Lula says the vice-presidential position is open for Alckmin but does not rule him out for the Senate

President Lula stated that the vice-presidential spot for his re-election campaign is open to Geraldo Alckmin, who may also consider a Senate candidacy.

During an event on Thursday, President Lula announced that the vice-presidential seat for his re-election campaign is still available for current vice president Geraldo Alckmin. Lula expressed his desire to have Alckmin as his running mate again but emphasized that the decision ultimately lies with Alckmin on whether he prefers to run for the vice-presidency or for the Senate instead. Lula highlighted the importance of forming a competitive slate for the upcoming elections, particularly against the right-wing candidates.

Lula further elaborated on his electoral strategy by indicating that the candidacy of Fernando Haddad for the government of São Paulo is part of a broader plan to secure a majority in the Senate. The president made it clear that even though Alckmin's vice-presidential position is available, it is crucial to have a strong team to face the opposition candidates effectively. Lula appeared confident about his potential electoral coalition, remarking that the right-wing faction has limited options for Senate candidates against his proposed lineup.

Additionally, Lula announced that one of the Senate seats will be contested by Minister Simone Tebet, who will be shifting her electoral base from Mato Grosso do Sul to São Paulo and transitioning from the MDB party to the PSB. This move signifies a strategy to consolidate support and enhance competitiveness as the electoral landscape begins to take shape ahead of the elections.
