Friday with 'V' for 'Spring Returns': How the Hoy No Circula works on March 20 in CDMX and Edomex?

On March 20, the Hoy No Circula program will restrict certain vehicles in Mexico City and the State of Mexico to combat air pollution.

As spring arrives in Mexico City, the Hoy No Circula vehicle restriction program will be in effect on March 20, targeting cars with certain license plate numbers to improve air quality in the region. This initiative aims to reduce pollution levels and enhance the environment in the sprawling Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. For the upcoming Friday, vehicles with blue stickers and license plates ending in '9' and '0' will not be allowed to circulate from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

The Hoy No Circula program is not only enforced in Mexico City but also affects the adjacent municipalities in the State of Mexico, with authorities empowered to issue fines for non-compliance. Residents and commuters are encouraged to utilize public transportation options, particularly since the Metro Line 2 will be undergoing maintenance, necessitating additional services from the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) for affected stations.

This vehicle restriction initiative is part of broader efforts by the Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis (CAMe) to combat air pollution during the spring season, which traditionally sees a rise in air quality issues. By regulating the number of vehicles on the road, officials hope to not only maintain cleaner air but also promote the use of sustainable transportation methods amongst the city's inhabitants.
