Unilever announces investment of 9,400 million pesos in Edomex: It will expand its plants as part of Plan Mexico

Unilever Mexico plans to invest 9.4 billion pesos in expanding two plants in the State of Mexico, as part of the federal initiative called Plan Mexico.

Unilever Mexico has announced a significant investment of 9.4 billion pesos (approximately 531 million dollars) aimed at expanding its facilities located in Lerma and Tultitlán. This expansion is intended to increase production capacity via the introduction of new production lines, advanced automation technology, and digital systems, as reported in a corporate communication by the office of Delfina Gómez, the governor of the State of Mexico.

Although the expansion has been publicly reported by Unilever, the State of Mexico government has yet to confirm this investment and has not provided details on whether it will result in new job creation for the local workforce. The uncertainty surrounding the government’s acknowledgment raises questions about the investment's immediate economic impact and the local community's support.

This investment is part of a broader federal initiative known as Plan Mexico, which aims to promote development and economic growth. Unilever's director in Mexico, Mildred Villegas Sojo, mentioned that this investment is part of a larger commitment by the company, totaling 30 billion pesos announced earlier in 2025 as part of the same initiative. This aligns Unilever's growth strategy within Mexico with national economic priorities, which could have significant repercussions for the region's manufacturing sector.
