Bread factory closed due to cockroach infestation is fined again for continuing production
A bread factory in Fortaleza, Brazil, has been fined again for continuing operations despite being closed due to health violations including a cockroach infestation.
The bread factory located in the Carlito Pamplona neighborhood of Fortaleza, Brazil, has faced renewed penalties after health inspectors from the Fortaleza Regulatory Agency (Agefis) discovered that it had been operating while under a sanitary closure. This closure, which had been in effect for nine days starting from March 10 due to severe infestations of cockroaches, was further complicated when inspectors found evidence of ongoing production when they conducted a follow-up inspection on March 18, requested by the company.
During their inspection, Agefis officials uncovered a number of violations, including freshly manufactured products displayed for sale that were produced after the factory's initial closure. Furthermore, they detected orders processed on March 12, 13, and 14, as well as evidence that one of the ovens had been used recently, contradicting the closure mandate. The agency also confiscated new products stored in a freezer that lacked proper labels or identification of production dates, which raises serious concerns about food safety and accountability for the establishment.
The continuous operation of the factory despite the health order not only puts consumers at risk but also showcases a disregard for public health regulations. The actions of Agefis highlight the importance of enforcement in maintaining food safety standards within the city, indicating that the authorities are taking these violations seriously and are committed to ensuring compliance to protect the health of the community.
