Sixty flights canceled due to weather
Sixty flights have been canceled by Icelandair and other airlines due to severe weather conditions in Iceland, affecting travel to and from Keflavik Airport.
Icelandair has announced the cancellation of all outbound flights scheduled before noon due to adverse weather conditions, with only a couple of flights remaining on schedule for the evening. Additional airlines have also canceled their flights as a yellow weather warning comes into effect across much of the country. The warning indicates that disruptions might continue, impacting flights to and from Keflavik Airport until at least midday on Saturday, March 21.
In total, the airline has canceled twelve flights coming from North America for the morning of March 20, leaving over a thousand passengers stranded in the West. Many of these individuals now face challenges in finding alternative travel arrangements, as flights to Europe have been halted for both morning departures and afternoon arrivals. The abrupt weather changes have posed significant travel disruptions, causing a ripple effect on connecting flights and travel plans for many.
With the yellow weather warning in place, authorities anticipate ongoing challenges at airports as travelers attempt to manage the fallout from the cancellations. Passengers are advised to stay updated on the situation and check with their airlines for the latest information regarding their flights. As the weather system moves through the region, further adjustments to flight schedules are likely, and travelers should be prepared for potential delays or cancellations in the coming days.
