Turkish Foreign Minister to Al Jazeera: Iranian Attack on Gulf Countries is a Strategic Mistake

Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the Iranian attack on Gulf countries is a strategic and tactical error, warning that it could lead to lasting animosity with the Gulf nations.

During a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan addressed the strategic implications of Iran's attacks on Gulf countries, labeling such actions as fundamentally erroneous. He emphasized that expecting these nations to exert pressure on the United States following such aggression is neither strategically nor tactically sound. This notion, according to Fidan, could foster enduring hostility between Iran and the Gulf states.

Fidan's remarks were made during a special meeting with a group of journalists accompanying him on his Gulf tour, which included participation in a meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers in Riyadh, initiated by Saudi Arabia. His presence in the region also involved discussions in Qatar and the UAE, signaling Turkey's ongoing interest in regional stability and cooperation.

The discussion took a dramatic turn when both Fidan and the journalist, Kemal Öztürk, received alerts about a potential attack during their interview in a hotel lobby in Riyadh. However, they chose to remain in the lobby. Following their meeting, Fidan attended the foreign ministers' meeting and his convoy was near the venue when two explosions were reported. This incident underscores the heightened tensions in the region and the potential for escalated conflict amid ongoing Iranian actions.
