G. Nausėda: It is necessary to strengthen Europe's competitiveness and reduce energy prices
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda calls for strengthening Europe's competitiveness and addressing the issue of high energy prices amid economic challenges.
In a recent discussion emphasizing the importance of increasing Europe's economic potential, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda proposed several measures aimed at strengthening the common market and improving access to capital for businesses. He underscored the need to address the ongoing instability in the Middle East and its impact on Europe's reliance on fossil fuels, which contributes to soaring energy prices that significantly pressure industrial competitiveness.
Nausėda highlighted that Europe possesses the necessary conditions to become the most competitive region in the world but must eliminate barriers within the single market, mobilize investments, and ensure accessible energy prices. He emphasized the urgency of implementing temporary measures to reduce electricity infrastructure costs for industries to benefit from cheaper electricity immediately, along with targeted short-term measures to control fuel price increases.
The president also advocated for a temporary EU-level financing mechanism, suggesting it would be beneficial in tackling the current energy crisis and stabilizing the economy. With ongoing challenges in oil and gas markets, addressing energy price fluctuations is critical for maintaining industry competitiveness and long-term economic stability in the region.
