The winners of the 'Golden Apple 2025' book design competition were honored with bronze apple awards and cash prizes, showcasing artistic achievements in the field of book design.
The 'Golden Apple 2025' book design competition has announced its winners, who received bronze apple awards crafted by artists Maija Vīksne and Ivars Miķelsons, together with cash prizes for the title of 'Artist of the Year' and lifetime achievements in publishing. This year's new designer award, called the 'Glass Apple', was created at the Līvānu Glass and Craft Center. The competition highlights the importance of artistic value in book design and its contribution to the literary arts.
The nominated books will be on display throughout the year at various branches of the Riga Central Library, allowing the public to appreciate the artistic efforts put forth by designers and publishers. From March to May, these works will be showcased at the cultural center 'Siguldas devons', while during the summer, they move to the Ogre Central Library, and in the fall, they'll be in the Jurmala Central Library. Additionally, these nominated entries will also be part of the exhibition of the most beautiful Baltic books in Vilnius, with display events scheduled during the Riga Book Fair in March.
This competition serves not only to reward excellence in book design but also to promote literature and enhance community engagement with the arts. It reflects Latvia’s cultural vitality and supports emerging talent in design through exhibitions and artistic showcases. As audiences engage with these works, it fosters a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into book publishing and design.
