Cities in the Itapetininga region should receive R$ 6.1 million from the SP Government for flood prevention works

The Government of São Paulo has announced R$ 6.1 million for infrastructure improvements in four cities to prevent flooding.

The State Government of São Paulo has allocated approximately R$ 6.1 million for flood prevention projects in four cities within the Itapetininga region, which include Capão Bonito, Guareí, Ribeirão Branco, and Sarapuí. This funding, announced on the 17th, is part of local agreements aimed at improving infrastructure in areas heavily impacted by rainfall. These significant investments reflect the government's commitment to enhancing public safety and environmental resilience in vulnerable locales.

The allocated funds will support various infrastructure enhancements, including the construction of bridges, crossings, and other essential works aimed at improving water drainage and reducing the risks of damage during heavy storms. The projects are funded through the "SP Sempre Alerta - Chuvas 2025/2026" initiative, which emphasizes preventive measures to safeguard communities from the increasing threat of flooding as a consequence of climate change and heavy rainfalls.

For instance, in Capão Bonito, a substantial portion of the funds, totaling R$ 2,911,670.24, is earmarked for the construction of a new bridge on Estrada do Bairro dos Formigas over the Rio Paranapanema, indicating the specific focus of the government on critical infrastructure that connects communities while also managing flood risks. In Ribeirão Branco, another R$ 1,791,106.52 will be allocated for similar bridge construction, highlighting the targeted approach to bolster local infrastructures against adverse weather conditions.
