The scope of the trade agreement with the United States will be analyzed in sector by sector technical meetings
Ecuador will evaluate its recent trade agreement with the United States through technical meetings with various business sectors to discuss opportunities and concerns.
Ecuador has signed a Reciprocal Trade Agreement with the United States, which will now be scrutinized in depth through a series of meetings with the private sector. The Minister of Production, Foreign Trade and Investments, Luis Alberto Jaramillo, recently convened the Ecuadorian Business Committee to discuss the implications of the agreement. The focus will be on identifying both opportunities for Ecuadorian exports and concerns that might arise from the new trade landscape.
During the meeting, committee president Juan Carlos Navarro emphasized that the trade agreement represents a strategic move for Ecuador to establish itself as a reliable long-term partner in an important global market. The Minister clarified that the agreement aims to enhance access for Ecuadorβs exportable supply, particularly in sectors where the country holds competitive advantages, ensuring the alignment with Ecuadorian business interests and industry capabilities.
The approach includes establishing transitional mechanisms for sensitive sectors that may be adversely affected by the new agreement. This comprehensive examination aims to foster a better understanding of the potential impact of the trade agreement and to position Ecuador favorably in its dealings with the United States, an essential and influential trade partner.
