NDLEA seizes 510 blocks of cannabis, arrests suspect in Kano
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kano, Nigeria, seized 510 blocks of cannabis and arrested a suspect ahead of Eid-al-Fitr.
In a significant drug bust, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano, Nigeria, reported the seizure of 510 blocks of cannabis sativa in connection with the arrest of a suspect named Sani Musa. The arrest took place during an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 10, 2026, aimed at curbing drug trafficking, particularly as the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations approached, when demand for drugs tends to rise.
The NDLEA State Commander, D.Y. Lawal, elaborated on the operation in a statement, revealing that Sani Musa, a 34-year-old resident of the Bebeji Local Government Area, was allegedly tasked by a known drug dealer, referred to as 'Alaramma,' to safeguard the cannabis in his residence. During questioning, Musa confessed that he was meant to sell the drugs to customers, particularly during the lucrative Sallah period, underscoring how festive seasons often lead to spikes in drug-related activities.
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to combat drug trafficking in the country, especially during high-demand times. The NDLEA's proactive measures aim to reduce the prevalence of drug use and distribution, signifying an ongoing commitment to public safety and health as the agency faces challenges posed by entrenched drug networks in the region.
