Suvi Minkkinen has high stakes on Saturday - comments on Yle: "The game is completely open"
Flying Finnish biathlete Suvi Minkkinen finished 11th in the women’s 7.5-km sprint at the last World Cup weekend in Holmenkollen, failing to contend for the overall title.
The final weekend of the biathlon World Cup kicked off in Holmenkollen, Norway, with Finnish athlete Suvi Minkkinen participating in the women's 7.5-kilometer sprint. Minkkinen finished in 11th place, over a minute behind the winner, Sweden’s Hanna Öberg, which confirmed that she would no longer be competing for the overall World Cup title.
Before the weekend in Holmenkollen, Minkkinen was trailing French competitor Lou Jeanmonnot by 201 points. With Jeanmonnot finishing sixth in the same event, she extended her lead in the overall standings to 216 points, eliminating any chance for Minkkinen to surpass her. Although Minkkinen managed to complete the race without penalty loops, she acknowledged her struggles with skiing speed during the competition.
Expressing disappointment after the race, Minkkinen noted that while the first lap felt sluggish, she managed to regain some rhythm in the latter part. Nevertheless, she sensed a continuous gap in performance compared to her competitors, leading to feelings of frustration regarding her overall performance in the upcoming events of the season.
