The 600,000 Euro Mystery Was Solved in Sweden – An Elderly Man Had No Idea About His Huge Win: "I Blocked the Number"

An elderly Swedish man unknowingly won about 600,000 euros through a betting game, as the betting company struggled to reach him due to his blocked number.

A Swedish man recently hit the jackpot in a popular betting game called V85, winning approximately 600,000 euros without realizing it. The game involves predicting the winners of horse races in eight predetermined races. The elderly man placed a bet of 20 euros on February 21st using a quick-pick option, whereby a computer selected the horses on his behalf. To everyone's surprise, the computer correctly predicted all the winning horses, and the winnings were credited to his account without his knowledge.

The betting company, ATG, made several attempts to contact the man to inform him about his extraordinary win but was unsuccessful because the man had allegedly blocked the number, mistaking the calls for telemarketing attempts. Julia Björklund, who is responsible for winner communication at ATG, expressed her disbelief that such a situation could occur, highlighting how the winnings remained untouched in the man's betting account as of March 9. She speculated that the man likely still had no idea he had won a significant amount of money.

This peculiar circumstance raises questions about the communication strategies of betting companies and how they can effectively reach winners to inform them about their prizes. In this case, it seems that a combination of technology, chance, and miscommunication led to an elderly man potentially missing out on what could be life-changing news, emphasizing the unexpected turns that come with betting and gambling in modern society.
