Inbokss

The owner of Inbokss is considering a civil lawsuit against SS for potentially anticompetitive practices that have hindered the development of the competing platform pp.lv.

Inbokss, the owner of the website Inbox.lv and the online advertisement platform pp.lv, is contemplating initiating a civil lawsuit against SIA SS, the owner of the advertisement site ss.lv. According to Andris Griķis, the owner of Inbokss, the lawsuit is related to actions that may have impeded the growth of the competing platform. Notably, Griķis applauded the decision by the Competition Council, which imposed a fine of 186,780 euros on SS for its practices that he believes have hindered fair competition in the market.

Griķis highlighted that he has been reporting possible antitrust violations to the Competition Council since 2020, and many in the market have been aware of SS's practices for some time. He emphasized the impact of SS's procedure of blocking or deleting advertisements that were simultaneously posted on pp.lv, stressing that it significantly affected the platform’s initial growth phase. Major players in the automotive and real estate sectors often depend on ss.lv, making it difficult for newer platforms like pp.lv to break into the market.

Continuing despite these challenges, pp.lv is still operational, indicating resilience in the face of competitive pressures. Griķis's acknowledgment of the new leadership at the Competition Council suggests a shift in the regulatory landscape that may provide more scrutiny toward anti-competitive behaviors in the long run. This situation underscores the significant influence that major platforms can exert over market competition, and the ongoing reforms could reshape the dynamics between competing online services in Latvia.
