Three people suspected of organizing a luxury event using the name of a famous brand to commit a R$ 4 million scam are arrested in Goiânia

Three suspects have been arrested in Goiânia for allegedly running a scam involving a fake luxury event that cost suppliers R$ 4 million.

In Goiânia, Brazil, authorities have arrested three individuals suspected of orchestrating a fraudulent luxury masquerade ball that was falsely advertised as being affiliated with a renowned fashion brand. The investigation led by the Goiás Civil Police revealed that the event was a ploy to dupe victims into purchasing expensive handbags priced over R$ 15,000, which were purported to be necessary for securing invitations. The scam resulted in significant financial losses exceeding R$ 4 million for various suppliers involved in the preparation of the event.

The main suspect, Mayara Cristina Constantino, age 33, was identified as the leader of this deceptive scheme. She reportedly presented herself online as a consultant for image and style, utilizing social media platforms to attract victims. According to Detective Lara Soares, the scale of the planned event was substantial, with a venue reserved for the gala; however, it was ultimately postponed due to a lack of payments by the organizers.

This incident underlines the growing phenomenon of fraud in the luxury event sector, where scammers exploit the prestige of well-known brands to lure victims. The arrests highlight the importance of vigilance and verification when engaging with high-value events online, particularly in an era where digital scams are increasingly sophisticated and widespread.
