Stretch of Av. Jóquei Clube in Teresina is blocked in both directions after crater increases; see alternative route
A section of Avenida Jóquei Clube in Teresina has been closed in both directions due to the expansion of a crater, prompting authorities to suggest alternative routes for drivers.
The city of Teresina has been dealing with a serious infrastructure issue as a section of Avenida Jóquei Clube has been blocked off in both directions following the significant increase in the size of a crater. This closing, which happened on Thursday, September 19, has led local authorities, specifically the Superintendência de Transportes e Trânsito (Strans), to recommend alternative routes to help mitigate traffic disruption in the area. The Strans has advised motorists to use Rua Demerval Lobão in order to bypass the affected section near Riverside Shopping.
The situation at the scene has raised further safety concerns, particularly with close proximity of nearby trees and a utility pole, which appear to be at risk of collapse. These hazards have been cordoned off with isolation tape as work continues around the unstable area. The visibility of the crater has been worsened by the accumulation of water from the sub-terranean drainage system, leaving the surrounding ground muddy and unstable. Further complicating matters, cracks have also been observed in the asphalt of the opposite side of the street, leading to warnings being issued to drivers via cones and tape.
Despite these warnings, reports indicate that some motorcyclists have been ignoring closures and have been navigating through the risky zones since Wednesday, September 18. This behavior raises serious concerns about potential accidents and highlights the need for stricter enforcement of safety measures. In response to the escalating danger and ongoing structural problems, local authorities are likely to remain vigilant in monitoring the situation and ensuring effective communication about the alternative routes available until the repairs can be completed.
