Complaint about precarious structure of Samu in Luís Correia leads MP to demand urgent adjustments
The public prosecutor's office in Piauí has recommended urgent improvements to the emergency medical service in the municipality of Luís Correia due to its poor conditions.
The Piauí Public Ministry has identified several urgent issues concerning the emergency medical service (Samu) in Luís Correia, leading to recommendations for immediate corrective measures. A report issued by the prosecutor Yan Walter Carvalho Cavalcante highlighted severe deficiencies such as outdated equipment, broken windows, and dilapidated infrastructure that pose risks to public health and safety. Visual evidence was provided showing the alarming conditions, including deteriorating stretchers and abandoned tires at the service's headquarters.
Professional staff members have also raised concerns with the Public Ministry regarding malfunctioning ambulances. Reports indicate issues with non-functioning speedometers, broken air conditioning, and worn-out seats and doors, compounding the urgency for necessary repairs and upgrades. The safety and efficacy of the emergency medical response in Luís Correia have been put in jeopardy, demanding prompt actions from local authorities to address these concerns.
Efforts to reach the municipality's administration and the Health Department for comments have so far been unsuccessful, reflecting a troubling silence from officials amid these pressing issues. Moreover, a previous technical visit in November 2025 by the Piauí Health Secretariat to the Municipal Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceição also revealed irregularities, showcasing a broader pattern of neglect in healthcare facilities in the region, which necessitates widespread reform and oversight.
