In recent days, sixty employees of the public Slovak Television and Radio (STVR) have been anxiously awaiting notifications of their impending layoffs. Although management has yet to officially deliver any termination notices, it is reported that these will begin to be issued progressively from the following Tuesday. The leadership justifies this decision as part of a necessary consolidation, with general director Martina Flašíková previously asserting that layoffs would primarily affect roles deemed redundant. However, many of those at risk include journalists and programmers whose positions are not strictly surplus, raising concerns about the true motives behind these cuts.

The situation has intensified following allegations that the terminations disproportionately threaten individuals who have previously expressed critical views regarding the strategic dissolution of RTVS. Those targeted include members of a strike committee who have vocally opposed this move, including prominent figures like journalist Soňa Gyarfašová and Radio Junior's chief dramaturg Tomáš Bartoněk. In addition to them, other employees at Radio Devín, such as Zuzana Golianová and Andrea Makýšová Volárová, are also reportedly facing job losses, highlighting a broader trend of suppressing dissent within the organization.
