Venezuela: New Ministers in Caracas

In Venezuela, Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has reshuffled her cabinet, replacing longtime Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López with former intelligence chief Gustavo González López amid U.S. sanctions and accusations of human rights abuses.

In a significant political reshuffle in Venezuela, Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has replaced her cabinet for the first time since a U.S. military attack and the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro earlier in the year. The most notable change in this cabinet reshuffle was the removal of Vladimir Padrino López, who has served as Defense Minister since 2014 and was considered one of the most powerful figures within the Maduro administration. In his place, Rodríguez appointed Gustavo González López, a former intelligence chief who is already sanctioned by both the European Union and the United States due to his alleged involvement in numerous human rights violations, including arbitrary detentions and torture.
