A survey of residents regarding the renaming of Cardinal H. Gulbinovičius streets has begun in Vilnius district
The Vilnius district municipality has initiated a survey to gauge community opinions on renaming streets in honor of Cardinal H. Gulbinovičius.
The Vilnius district municipality announced the start of a survey aimed at involving residents in the decision-making process regarding the potential renaming of streets after Cardinal H. Gulbinovičius. This initiative seeks to ensure transparency and allows the community to express their views on memorializing the clergyman in public spaces. While the final decision rests with the municipal council, the mayor, Robertas Duchnevičius, stressed the importance of considering residents' opinions, recognizing the varied perspectives within the community—some prioritizing moral implications while others have practical concerns.
Participation in the survey is open to adults living on streets named after Cardinal H. Gulbinovičius within specific villages and homesteads in the Nemenčinė area during the period from March 19 to April 15 of this year. Residents can submit their opinions electronically via the mobile application "Vilnius district 'Arti'" or in person at designated locations. This engagement reflects a growing emphasis on community involvement in local governance and decision-making processes, ensuring that the voices of those directly affected are heard and considered.
The proposed change and the resulting survey indicate a proactive approach by the municipal authorities to actively involve residents in matters of public interest. By eliciting feedback on such symbolic actions as street naming, the local government aims to foster a sense of community involvement and potentially reconcile differing opinions on the moral and practical dimensions of the initiative.
