RCMP make arrest made in ‘devastating’ attack on New Brunswick musician

RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with a serious assault on musician John McLaren in New Brunswick.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have arrested a suspect in relation to a violent attack on New Brunswick musician John McLaren over the weekend. McLaren, who was performing at Happy Craft Brewing in Moncton, was assaulted after his performance and found seriously injured, requiring immediate medical attention. As of Monday, he remained in the intensive care unit due to the severity of his injuries.

Police responded to the assault report shortly after midnight and found McLaren unconscious on the scene. Initial investigations indicated that the assault likely occurred near where he had been performing. Despite the immediate response from authorities, the suspect managed to flee before officers arrived but was later located and arrested at a nearby residence on Weldon Street.

The suspect, Luke Powers, faced charges of aggravated assault in provincial court and has been remanded into custody. This incident raises concerns about safety and violence in public entertainment venues, as local musicians like McLaren are often vulnerable to such attacks while performing. The community is now rallying in support of McLaren, highlighting the need for increased awareness and protection for artists in New Brunswick.
