DR: Denmark Prepared for U.S. Attack - Sent Troops and Explosives to Greenland

Denmark prepared for a potential U.S. attack on Greenland earlier this year, dispatching troops and explosives to the region.

According to Danish media DR, Denmark took precautionary measures in early 2023 against a potential U.S. military strike on Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark. In January, Danish troops were sent to Greenland equipped with explosives intended for the destruction of airstrips in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq to prevent U.S. aircraft from landing there. Medical supplies, including blood bags, were also included in this deployment to ensure injured personnel could receive medical treatment in the event of a conflict.

The situation in Greenland has raised concerns in Europe, as reported by DR. The crisis highlighted the necessity for European nations to take ownership of their respective security. A French official indicated that the realization of the vulnerability brought forth by Greenland’s predicament led to an urgent discussion about Europe's defense capabilities and their reliance on external powers like the United States.

In addition to Danish troops, allied soldiers from Norway and Sweden were also reported to have arrived in Greenland in January. This multinational military presence underscores the strategic significance of Greenland in the context of geopolitical tensions, particularly in light of previous claims by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the territory and his intentions towards it, exemplifying the complexity of international dynamics involving Greenland and resultant defensive postures within Europe.
