E6 in Rosten is open again after a rockslide
The E6 highway at Rosten reopened after being closed due to a rockslide on Wednesday.
The E6 highway at Rosten, located north of Sel in Gudbrandsdalen, has reopened following a rockslide that occurred on Wednesday evening. Initially, the road was closed due to debris that fell onto the highway, prompting quick action from the authorities to ensure safety. The reopening was confirmed by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration at around 12:30 PM after they successfully removed the rock and cleared the area.
A geologist conducted a check of the site both with a drone and on foot, assessing the potential for further rockfall. Their inspection concluded that there is currently no risk of subsequent collapses, offering reassurance to both local residents and travelers. It was reported that the rock, which likely loosened due to frost action, slid down an icy surface, subsequently striking the roadside railing before landing on the road itself.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges posed by geological factors in Norway, especially in winter conditions. Rockslides can pose significant hazards to road safety and accessibility in mountainous regions, emphasizing the importance of continuous monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure to prevent such occurrences in the future.
