Two pharmacies located in the Stockholm area have been closed immediately following their involvement in a substantial fraud case, according to reports from SVT Nyheter Stockholm. The closures come after four individuals, including pharmacists and doctors, were detained since February for allegedly defrauding the Stockholm Region of approximately 20 million kronor. The fraud pertains to licenced medications connected to Botox, where the suspects are believed to have charged the Stockholm Region significantly higher prices than what the medications were procured for.

The Swedish Medicines Agency, Läkemedelsverket, has made the decision to close the two pharmacies, one of which was identified as a central hub in the fraudulent scheme. Annika Babra, head of the supervisory division at Läkemedelsverket, stated that during an unannounced inspection conducted earlier this week, they discovered conditions that posed possible risks to patient safety, prompting the immediate closure of the establishments.
