6 New Faces in the Algerian National Team as Petkovic Excludes 12 Players

The Algerian national football team has welcomed six new players under coach Vladimir Petkovic ahead of friendly matches against Guatemala and Uruguay.

Vladimir Petkovic, the head coach of the Algerian national football team, has called up 27 players, including six newcomers, in preparation for their upcoming friendly matches against Guatemala and Uruguay scheduled for March 27 and 31 in Italy. During a press conference held on Wednesday, Petkovic introduced the new players, consisting of two goalkeepers, Kylian Belhazouq from Rennes and Melvin Mastil from Lausanne, as well as defender Achraf Abada from Union Algeria, midfielder Adel Ouchich from Schalke, forward Faris Gjemis from Frosinone, and Ahmed Al-Nadhir Ben Bouali from Gyor in Hungary.

In addition to the new faces, several players have made their return to the national squad after missing the Africa Cup of Nations for various reasons. This includes defender Sohib Nayir from Guingamp, midfielder Yassine Titraoui from Charleroi, and forward Amine Gouiri from Marseille, alongside other notable returns. These reinforcements are crucial as Algeria seeks to build a competitive team ahead of potential qualifiers and tournaments in the coming months.

Conversely, 12 players have been excluded from the current roster, including goalkeeper Osama Ben Bout, who has retired from international football. This significant reshuffling of the team reflects Petkovic's strategy to rejuvenate the squad with fresh talent while also rewarding returning players who previously contributed to the team’s success. Monitoring the performance of these new additions will be key as Algeria aims to sustain its footballing stature in Africa and beyond.
