Drone Command Controversy in Pyongyang: Restructuring Instead of Abolition
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense has decided to restructure the Drone Command instead of abolishing it, reallocating its operational duties to the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines while retaining the headquarters for policy and educational purposes.
In response to the controversy surrounding the infiltration of North Korean drones, South Korea's Ministry of National Defense has chosen to restructure the Drone Command rather than outright abolish it. This restructuring involves transferring operational duties to the various branches of the armed forces — Army, Navy, and Air Force — as a measure to enhance the integration and completeness of drone operations. The headquarters of the Drone Command will be modified to focus on the development and training of military drones, thus maintaining its existence albeit with a shift in its core responsibilities.
