Liv Ullmann's autobiographical book "Transformation" has been newly released in the 'Golden Series' of Loomingu Raamatukogu, reflecting on her life and career as a prominent Norwegian actress, director, and author. Originally published in Norwegian in 1976 and first translated into Estonian in 1986, this updated version marks the 40th anniversary of its initial release. The book provides insights into Ullmann's experiences in the film industry, her collaborations with renowned filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, and her dual roles as a director and mother.
Ullmann is celebrated for her remarkable performances in classic films such as "Scenes from a Marriage" and "Persona," where she often played complex female characters. The new translation, completed by Anu Saluäär, not only makes the work accessible to a new generation of Estonian readers but also highlights her journey and the personal challenges she faced balancing her professional and personal life. Her previous work, a book of interviews titled "Liv Ullmann – Life Lines," created in collaboration with Ketil Bjørnstad, adds depth to the understanding of her life and career.
The release comes at a significant time, as Ullmann's legacy continues to influence contemporary cinema and theater. This edition of "Transformation" not only commemorates her contributions to the arts but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring actors and storytellers about the resilience and vulnerability behind a successful creative life.
