The war on Iran: Casualty figures in numbers
Thousands have died and many more have been injured since the onset of military confrontations led by Israel and the US against Iran since February 28.
Since February 28, a comprehensive military conflict has erupted, with Israel and the United States targeting Iran, resulting in a substantial loss of life on both sides. Most reports indicate that Iran has suffered the highest casualties, with the Iranian news agency HRANA reporting over 3,100 deaths, including more than 1,350 civilians and 207 children. These losses come amidst a heavy military campaign, including drone strikes and ground operations, which have also claimed the lives of high-profile Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In addition to casualties within Iran, neighboring countries have also been affected. In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in 968 deaths, with significant civilian losses reported. The World Health Organization confirmed that over 100 children have been among the fatalities in Lebanon. Furthermore, Iraq has seen at least 60 deaths, primarily among the Popular Mobilization Forces, and incidents in the West Bank have contributed to at least three Palestinian fatalities due to Iranian missile strikes. The overall picture illustrates a rapidly escalating conflict with dire humanitarian implications.
On the Israeli side, the Ministry of Health has reported 3,924 injuries since the onset of the conflict. However, specifics about military and civilian casualties in Israel remain elusive due to military censorship, complicating the understanding of the full impact of the conflict on both sides. The discrepancy in reporting and the severe information restrictions highlight the critical need for independent verification as the situation continues to evolve.
