The request of 'Aušriečiai' has a 'second bottom': the election commission only partially considered it
The 'Nemuno Aušra' party requested a three-week delay in a decision by the election commission regarding alleged serious law violations pertaining to rental cars used by its officials.
The 'Nemuno Aušra' political party requested the election commission to postpone its decision for three weeks until April 8, following revelations that investigators recommended recognizing a serious violation of law concerning the rental of vehicles by party chairman Remigijus Žemaitaitis and parliament member Daiva Petkevičienė. If the commission agrees with this recommendation, both Žemaitaitis and Petkevičienė could be obligated to return nearly 50,000 euros received for the rentals back to the party's account.
Moreover, should the commission label the violations as serious, it could jeopardize several hundred thousand euros in state subsidies for 'Nemuno Aušra'. The urgency of the situation was highlighted by Žemaitaitis, who explained that the decision delay request stems from perceived discrepancies between the proposed ruling and the data provided by the party. He emphasized the need to thoroughly review the information submitted to the commission before moving forward.
However, there is a crucial aspect in this case as subsidies are distributed by the election commission, indicating that 'Nemuno Aušra' could face significant financial repercussions. The ongoing developments will be closely monitored, as they not only affect the party's immediate financial situation but also their standing in the political landscape leading up to the upcoming elections.
