Kätlin Kontor-Kirss: neither snake nor gunpowder will take me anymore

Kätlin Kontor-Kirss, a screenwriter, reflects on writing as a way to cope with her husband's death and her transition from working under a pseudonym.

Kätlin Kontor-Kirss, a prominent screenwriter known for her work on popular Estonian TV shows, recently marked 20 years since her creative career began. Following the death of her husband, director Toomas Kirss, Kontor-Kirss decided to abandon her pseudonym, Eleonora Berg, under which she had previously worked. Her works, which included successful series such as 'Kelgukoerad', 'Pilvede all', and 'Kartulid ja apelsinid', were primarily collaborative efforts with Kirss. The revelation of her identity as the true author of those works came to light in 2023, coinciding with her husband's passing, marking both a personal and professional transition for Kontor-Kirss.
