Action by Banxico

The Bank of Mexico is reportedly working to modify accounts for small and medium-sized enterprises following a meeting with financial authorities and the president.

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico), under Governor Victoria Rodríguez, has been actively addressing urgent changes for the financial sector, particularly focusing on the requirements for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country. Following a pivotal meeting at the National Palace, which included discussions with President Claudia Sheinbaum and major banking officials led by Emilio Romano of the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM), it has been determined that adjustments to the accounts N2 are necessary to stimulate financial support for these businesses.

The discussions were extensive, covering various topics essential for revitalizing the economy. However, the crux of the meeting centered on how to enhance funding for projects outlined in the Mexico Plan. This initiative aims to boost economic activity by facilitating growth in MSMEs, which are critical to overall economic health and employment in Mexico. Enhanced banking support and adaptive policies from key financial authorities are seen as vital levers in achieving these goals.

There were also specific requests from the banking sector directed to Ministry of Finance led by Edgar Amador, as well as the National Banking and Securities Commission headed by Ángel Cabrera. These requests included urgent reforms that are expected to align with the government’s objectives of economic rejuvenation and providing sustainable financial frameworks for MSMEs. The actions taken by Banxico will therefore not only impact the immediate financial climate but will resonate through broader economic policies aimed at recovery and growth.
