This offensive took place on the evening of March 18, with Ukrainian air defense reporting the downing of 109 UAVs, which highlights the ongoing tensions in the region. Although a substantial number of drones were intercepted, reports confirmed that strikes were successfully executed at 11 different locations within Ukraine.
The drones were launched from multiple sites in Russia, including Oryol, Shatalovo, Bryansk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea. Among the UAVs deployed, 70 were identified as Shahed loitering munitions, which have been a significant component of Russia's drone warfare strategy. As this aerial assault unfolded, Ukrainian air defense forces, equipped with aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, and electronic warfare assets, mobilized to counteract the threat.
