In 2025, Portugal's tourism industry reported robust growth, attracting 19.7 million foreign tourists, which is a 1.9% increase from the previous year. This rise contributed to a total of 32.5 million visitors, including domestic tourists, marking a 3% increase over the year. The continued influx of tourists helped strengthen the country's economy through more significant tourism revenues.
The Algarve region was highlighted as the most affordable holiday destination, offering competitive pricing for products and services. The analysis from Hosteltur emphasized the importance of the incoming tourism segment, which accounted for 57 million overnight stays out of a total of 82.1 million, reflecting a 2.2% increase. This data showcases how Portugal remains a favored option for tourists seeking value and variety in their travel experiences.
Among the foreign travelers, British tourists remained the largest source market, with 2.5 million arrivals, illustrating the UK's ongoing appeal as a travel origin to Portugal. The American tourist inbound numbers also showed a competitiveness, overtaking Spanish visitors, indicating a shift in travel preferences.
