Husband to fight charges over crash with train that killed wife
A husband pleads not guilty to careless driving charges following a fatal accident in which his wife was killed after their vehicle collided with a train.
Haydn Thomas Mansell, a 40-year-old man from Albany, Australia, has entered a not guilty plea to charged with careless driving causing death after a tragic incident where his vehicle collided with a freight train, resulting in the death of his wife Cailee Mansell. The accident occurred in July of the previous year near Redmond, approximately 400 kilometers south of Perth, when their Mitsubishi Triton met the grain train at a level crossing. Cailee, who was only 29 years old at the time, was seated in the passenger seat and died upon impact, while their three children, present in the vehicle, sustained only minor injuries.
Following the accident, two crew members from the train received treatment for shock, although they did not suffer any physical injuries. Mr. Mansell appeared in the Albany Magistrates Court to face the charge of careless driving causing death, which also includes allegations of causing grievous bodily harm. This court appearance was brief, as Mansell only stated his not guilty plea during the proceedings. A trial has been scheduled for October, which is expected to last two days, involving testimonies and evidence that will delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident and the responsibilities of the parties involved.
