Book: Petra Gargano's boyfriend arranged an ugly incident at a karaoke bar – 'Hell broke loose'

Singer Petra Gargano reveals in her autobiography how a carefree teenage romance turned into a psychologically abusive relationship.

In her autobiography titled "Comeback," singer Petra Gargano describes her early relationship that began with a vibrant teenage romance but gradually devolved into psychological abuse. The now 40-year-old artist, who gained fame as the frontwoman of the band Tiktak, reflects on how she lost herself in the process of trying to please her boyfriend.

Initially, Gargano recalls a summer filled with love and joy; however, as time progressed, her boyfriend's demeanor shifted to one characterized by jealousy and emotional distance. This change led her to question her own behavior, ultimately feeling responsible for the relationship's deterioration, believing, ‘There was something seriously wrong with me.’ Such emotional manipulation profoundly impacted her sense of self-worth and autonomy.

Gargano describes a striking contrast between her carefree teenage self and the person she became in the relationship, where she sought constant approval from her boyfriend regarding her choices, such as her clothing, makeup, and social activities. "Suddenly, the girl who wore whatever she wanted and dyed her hair pink was gone," she laments, capturing the essence of how controlling relationships can distort an individual’s identity and personal freedom.
