One in nine elementary school-aged boys uses ADHD medication

The use of ADHD medication among boys in Finland has significantly increased, with 11% of elementary school-aged boys reportedly using such medication last year, compared to 4% of girls.

According to a report by Kela, the Finnish social insurance institution, the use of ADHD medication among boys in elementary school has risen sharply in recent years. Last year, 11% of boys in this age group received ADHD medication, indicating a growing trend in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder among younger populations. In contrast, only about 4% of elementary school-aged girls were reported to be using such medications, highlighting a gender disparity in the prevalence and treatment of ADHD.
