A Burning Gas Cylinder Found on the Delhi-Prayagraj Rail Route in Kanpur, Causing Panic

A burning LPG cylinder found near the Delhi-Prayagraj rail route in Kanpur caused panic among passengers and railway administration.

On Wednesday evening at around 7:30 PM, an incident involving a burning LPG cylinder occurred on the Delhi-Prayagraj rail route, close to the Cantt area of Kanpur. The cylinder, which was a small 5 kg unit, was found approximately seven feet away from the track in a desolate area, causing immediate fear among passengers and railway officials. Local residents were able to extinguish the fire before police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrived on the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that the cylinder may have fallen from the Mahabodhi Express, potentially ignited due to a gas leak.

While searching the area near the tracks, police discovered a partially burned bag containing several items including some utensils, a mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card belonging to a resident of Pratapgarh, Om Prakash Mishra. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Satyajit Gupta, mentioned that they contacted Mishra's son through the recovered phone. It was learned that Om Prakash works as a security guard in Delhi and was returning home with his belongings and cash. This added a personal dimension to the incident, raising questions regarding how the cylinder came to be on the railway tracks.

The situation remains under investigation, as police and forensic teams delve into whether this was an accident or part of a larger conspiracy. The implications of this incident could lead to enhanced safety measures on the railways, particularly concerning hazardous materials and the protocols for their transport on passenger trains. This case also emphasizes the importance of local vigilance in ensuring passenger safety on the railways.
