Wando Overcomes Drought Crisis with Seawater Desalination Facility
Wando County in South Korea has successfully managed its drought crisis through the implementation of a seawater desalination facility and underground water storage dams.
Wando County, located in Jeollanam-do, South Korea, has effectively dealt with drought conditions that began in December last year by establishing seawater desalination facilities. After facing severe water shortages in 2022, Wando has taken measures such as transporting water and building desalination infrastructure, which have allowed them to maintain supply levels. The climate energy ministry indicated that the water level in the main reservoir was critically low but has now been stabilized, enabling the county to lift drought warnings. The desalination facilities are critical for transforming seawater and brackish water into potable water, boosting local water supply to meet daily demands.
