Summit pushes opportunities for women in creative sector
The Women Kreatives Connect Summit 2.0 in Lagos emphasized the need for stronger support systems and inclusion for women in Nigeria's creative sector.
The Women Kreatives Connect Summit 2.0, held in Lagos, gathered over 2,000 women alongside key stakeholders in the creative industry to address the various barriers faced by women trying to establish careers in this expanding sector. Organised by Terra Academy for the Arts and the Mastercard Foundation, the summit highlighted the necessity for enhanced support systems, increased access to opportunities, and deliberate inclusion to empower young women and those with disabilities.
Discussions at the summit revealed that women still encounter significant obstacles, including limited funding, insufficient professional networks, and a lack of visibility in the industry, hindering their ability to build sustainable careers. Despite the flourishing creative economy, many women continue to remain marginalized, which raises concerns about equity within the sector and the importance of mentorship and networking for their professional success.
By bringing these issues to the forefront, the summit aimed to mobilize stakeholders to collaborate on strategies that would support women's inclusion and representation in the creative industry. The overarching goal is to foster an environment that allows women to thrive and become more prominent figures in Nigeria's vibrant creative landscape, thereby contributing positively to the economy.
