Kuwait thwarted a 'terrorist plot' with sleeper cells from Hezbollah
Kuwait's Ministry of Interior announced the disruption of a terrorist plot linked to Hezbollah involving sleeper cells aimed at key installations in the country.
On Wednesday, Kuwait's Ministry of Interior reported the thwarting of a significant terrorist plot associated with the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah. The operation targeted sleeper cells believed to be preparing attacks against critical infrastructures in Kuwait. This announcement follows a similar operation earlier in the week, indicating a heightened alertness towards potential threats from organized terrorist factions within the region.
The spokesman for the Ministry, Naser Abusulaib, disclosed that the State Security Service successfully dismantled these sleeper cells, leading to the arrest of ten individuals, who have been described as members of a terrorist group affiliated with Hezbollah. Abusulaib revealed that the detainees had confessed their involvement and would face severe penalties under Kuwaiti law, reflecting the government's firm stance against terrorism and any threats to national security.
During the operation, authorities seized various items that underscore the seriousness of the threat, including drones, mobile phones, literature related to influential figures such as the late ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and images of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian general killed in a U.S. drone strike. The confiscation of a Hezbollah flag and weaponry further illustrates the potential danger posed by these sleeper cells, reinforcing Kuwait's need for vigilance in the face of regional instability and sectarian tensions.
