VIDEO: 'stuffed' flip-flop with drugs discovered during visit to prison in ES
A drug-stuffed flip-flop was seized during an attempted visit to a prison in Vila Velha, Brazil.
A visitor at the Penitenciária Estadual de Vila Velha in Grande Vitória attempted to smuggle nine packages resembling hashish hidden inside a flip-flop. The drugs were detected by a body scanner during the security procedures for the visit. As a result, the woman was apprehended by prison police and taken to the Vila Velha regional police station for further investigation.
Authorities from the Secretary of Justice (Sejus) confirmed the incident and reported that the local police are continuing their investigation. The specifics of the legal actions that will be taken against the woman will only be disclosed after the completion of witness statements and further inquiries by the police.
This incident raises concerns about security in prison facilities and the ongoing challenges authorities face in preventing drug smuggling into correctional institutions. Such attempts highlight the need for more stringent security measures to deter similar actions in the future, as the smuggling of drugs into prisons poses significant threats not only within the prison system but also to public safety outside of it.
