A man was arrested in Ananindeua, part of the Metropolitan Region of Belém, Brazil, on suspicion of mistreating his elderly mother and diverting her financial resources. The arrest took place on Wednesday, and investigations revealed that the victim was living in extremely poor conditions, lacking proper food, hygiene, and basic healthcare. This alarming situation was uncovered during an investigation in January when the elderly woman was removed from her home and placed under the care of another son.

According to the lead investigator, Delegate Caroline Batista, the victim was in a vulnerable state, sleeping in inadequate conditions and failing to receive her necessary medication. The suspect, who was entrusted with the care and financial management of his mother, reportedly exploited her funds for personal gain, using her bank card to withdraw money.

Furthermore, the investigation suggests that the suspect prevented other family members from helping the victim, indicating a severe level of control and neglect on his part. This case highlights serious issues regarding elder abuse and financial exploitation, raising awareness about the neglect faced by vulnerable individuals in society and the responsibilities that caregivers have to ensure their well-being.
