Deaths: He was the guardian of the evolution of Boi Garantido in Parintins

The agronomist, poet, and composer Tadeu Garcia, who dedicated much of his life to celebrating Amazonian culture through music, has passed away, leaving a lasting impact on the Festival Folclórico de Parintins.

Tadeu Garcia, an agronomist, poet, and composer, spent nearly half of his 68 years translating Amazonian culture into the verses of toadas, which are the rhythm of the Parintins Folklore Festival. His journey was marked by his dedication to finding a balance between tradition and evolution, solidifying his name within the festival through lyrics and melodies that reflected the passion of the fans and narrated the movements of the fabric bull in the arena. Garcia's contribution was significant, as he became a voice for the people, capturing their spirit through his poetry.

Following his passing, Garcia's body was cremated, and his ashes were taken to the memorial service held in Cidade Garantido, located in Baixa do São José, the birthplace of the bumbá he devoted his life to, situated along the Amazon River. His work celebrated not only the musical traditions of the region but also the emotional connection theater and culture have with the local community. Fred Góes, president of Bumbá Garantido and a fellow artist in the festival, highlighted Garcia's capacity to translate the soul of the red and white people through his artistry.

The bumbás Caprichoso and Garantido trace their origins to street games called fogueado, where individuals played with their fabric bulls around bonfires in Parintins. Garcia’s writing not only enriched the festival's heritage but also inspired future generations to continue upholding the vibrant cultural customs of Amazônia, ensuring that the spirit of the festival would endure.
