The US Federal Reserve System does not change the base interest rate
The US Federal Reserve has decided to maintain the base interest rate at a target range of 3.5-3.75% following their recent meeting.
The Open Market Committee of the US Federal Reserve System met and concluded that it will keep the base interest rate steady at a target range of 3.5-3.75%. This decision comes after several adjustments in the past year, including reductions made in September, October, and December, where the rate was lowered by 0.25 percentage points each time. The Fed has been actively managing interest rates to curb inflation, increasing them from March 2022 to July 2023, culminating in a rate of 5.25-5.5%. However, the recent meetings saw the first decrease in September 2024 with subsequent adjustments in November 2024, indicating a responsive approach to inflation metrics.
