Lieutenant Colonel arrives at prison designated for military police in North Zone of SP
Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Neto, suspected of murdering his wife, has been taken to a military prison in São Paulo following a court order for his arrest.
Lieutenant Colonel Geraldo Neto of the São Paulo Military Police has been transferred to the Romão Gomes Military Prison in the North Zone of São Paulo, where he will remain in preventive detention. This follows accusations that he shot his wife, Gisele Alves Santana, in the head. Before his transfer, he underwent a forensic examination at the Military Police Hospital and was processed at the 8th Police District. His arrest came after the Military Court issued a preventive arrest order based on evidence presented by ongoing civil investigations.
Neto was apprehended by the Military Police’s Internal Affairs Department in São José dos Campos in the state interior. This operation took place early in the morning on Wednesday (October 18), shortly after the preventive arrest was ordered by the military judiciary. The decision to detain him was bolstered by findings from the Civil Police, who had formally indicted him one day prior on charges of feminicide and procedural fraud, indicating an alleged tampering with the crime scene.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to its serious nature and the involvement of a police officer in an act of domestic violence. As investigations continue, there will be implications not only for the legal proceedings against Neto but also for the internal operations and accountability mechanisms within the Military Police, especially concerning issues of domestic violence where police officers are implicated. The focus now lies on the judicial process and ensuring justice for the victim, while also addressing the systemic issues within the institution.
