SEE AND LISTEN: A lynx was caught on a trail camera in Pärnu County searching for a mate

A lynx in Pärnu County, Estonia, was recorded on a trail camera vocalizing while searching for a mate during its mating season.

In February and March, the lynx, Estonia's only wild feline, enters its mating season, becoming more vocal as it seeks out a partner. Recently, a trail camera captured footage of a male lynx calling out in search of a mate, showcasing the animal's unusual behavior during this time. Toomas Näär, the owner of the camera, commented on the phenomenon, highlighting how the normally quiet lynx becomes quite loud due to increased testosterone levels during mating season.

Näär emphasized the importance of trail cameras in capturing the beauty of wildlife, stating that traditional cameras do not provide the same intimate and candid moments. The footage of the lynx's mating calls is part of a broader observation of wildlife behavior as spring approaches. Aside from everyday forest dwellers, Näär's camera has also recorded rare species, including an invasive species last October, which adds to the excitement of monitoring wildlife through technology.

This event not only sheds light on the lynx behavior but also underscores the significance of nature observation and conservation efforts in Estonia. The trail camera footage offers valuable insights into the breeding activities of the lynx, a species that requires careful management and protection to maintain its population and habitat in the wild.
