Ignoring Trump's embargo, Russia has sent tankers with oil and liquefied gas to Cuba

Russia has dispatched two tankers to Cuba carrying oil and liquefied natural gas, defying a U.S. energy blockade on the island.

Russia has sent two tankers to Cuba loaded with oil and liquefied natural gas, as reported by the Financial Times, amid ongoing energy blockades sanctioned by the U.S. The first tanker, the 'Sea Horse', which operates under the Hong Kong flag, is transporting approximately 27,000 tons of Russian gas. Following a change in its route last month, the arrival of the 'Sea Horse' at Cuba is expected in the coming days. A second tanker, 'Anatolijs Kolodkins', is delivering 728,000 barrels of oil and is anticipated to reach Cuba in early April.

Due to the oil blockade, Cuba's fuel reserves are rapidly depleting, leading to one of the deepest crises in the country's history. Regular power shortages have become the norm, and a recent complete failure of the electrical grid left the entire island without electricity. Consequently, Cuba has announced that it is impossible to conduct medical surgeries, with tens of thousands of Cubans waiting for such procedures, highlighting the severe humanitarian implications of the energy crisis.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressed that it would be a 'great honor' to take on new actions regarding Cuba and its energy situation. This development not only showcases the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Russia but also raises significant concerns about the humanitarian impact on the Cuban population, pressing the issues of energy imports, health, and governance on the island as it struggles with the repercussions of both international sanctions and internal crises.
